Substitute Custodians Needed for the Southmoreland School District for the 2026 - 2027 School Year

Candidates should be flexible enough to work at any of the schools in the district. There are currently two (2) full-time openings available at this time which will start as temp-to-hire positions. Probationary period is expected to be at least 30 days. A third, full-time vacancy is expected to be available in a few months.

We are also looking for custodians to work on a day-to-day basis, so if the candidates are only looking to work part-time or even as little as one day per week, these positions are often flexible enough to supplement the candidate's schedule.

All positions are considered substitutes until or unless the district hires the candidate(s).

During the school year, custodian hours are typically second shift between the hours of 3pm-11:30pm, however, there are some daylight shifts that may become available from time to time. During the summer months, Act 80, in-service days and when school is not in session, shifts are daylight, 7am-3:30pm.

All candidates interested in the full-time vacancies will be interviewed by the district.

Candidates interested in working only on a day-to-day basis will not interview, but will have a "meet & greet" with the facilities director and tours of the schools and facilities.

The qualified candidate(s) should have reliable transportation as the schools in the district are not accessible by bus.

All interested individuals should have some experience.

Custodians - $16.50/hour

If hired, the district pays $18/hour

Clearances required within the last year:

PA Criminal Background Check

PA Child Abuse Clearance

FBI fingerprints through the Dept. of Education

Act 126 Clearance (online Mandated Reporter training)

Arrest/Conviction Record form (Act 24) and Act 168 clearance (Precision will provide these forms for the candidates to complete)

Pre-employment physical and TB test required (neither should be more than 1 year old)

Additional Requirements:

Must have either a HS diploma or GED

It is preferred candidates have some experience in custodial/janitorial work, cleaning, hotel/housekeeping, etc.
