Summary: A medical billing clerk is responsible for collecting, organizing, prepping and billing invoices for medical transportation services. The medical biller ensures that all of the required documentation necessary for prompt reimbursement is included with the claim prior to it being submitted to the insurance provider or payer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of management/supervisors and/or owners.

Must pass post job offer alcohol and drug testing prior to starting assignment

Must agree to random alcohol and drug testing per PEASI policy

Collects all forms and documents necessary for the proper billing of each claim.

Follows the PEASI audit sheet for collecting and organizing information for claim submission.

Reviews the documents for accuracy and completeness and obtains any missing information.

Works directly with the insurance provider, the patient and the healthcare provider to get a claim processed in a timely manner.

Review accounts for insurance or patient follow-up.

Verify insurance provider and that invoicing is accurate and in compliance with any contract discounts.

If necessary contact the insurance provider with regards to any payment discrepancies.

Completes scanning of documents and placement in proper electronic files.

Completes billing statements with submission to secondary insurance or private billing to patients.

Answers telephones in a polite, courteous and professional manner.

Answers all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.

May need or be assigned to review or appeal any denied or unpaid claims.

Maintains notes regarding billings or issues with payments in reference to conversations with patients or insurance providers.

Provides a safe and welcome environment for patients and customers

Follows all PEASI Health and Safety policies

Documentation must be thorough and legible in accordance with PEASI standards.

Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills when interacting with other employees, patients, and customers, and verbal and written communication

Demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team, and individually as necessary.

Follows all company Policy and Procedures.

Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient information in accordance with HIPPA regulations, as well as sensitive PEASI company information and employee information.

Maintains a clean work area which includes the absence of clutter as well as regularly disinfecting telephones and computer keyboard and mouse to help avoid the spread of bacteria and influenza @type viruses.

Needs to empty trash cans in work area on a regular basis.

Must on a regular basis shred all nonessential papers which includes, notes and information that might place the employee or company in violation of HIPPA standards.

Employee must ensure that all patient information and the privacy rights of that patient are maintained by not revealing any personal patient information to anyone not directly related to the care or processing of that patient's protected information.

Must be able to multi-task within the duties of a medical biller.

Education and/or Experience and/or Certificates:

Must be of legal, hirable age based upon state and federal employment guidelines.

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Secondary education or experience with medical billing is desirable.
