Overview2L Summer Associate OverviewThe Orrick 2L Litigation (Financial Services) Summer Associate position is a unique opportunity for a highly qualified 2L student to gain valuable experience at a leading law firm's New York, San Francisco, or Orange County office working on financial services litigation matters. You will be a full member of Orrick's 2026 Summer Associate Program and compensated as an Orrick Summer Associate. Orrick partner sponsors will oversee your work assignments, networking opportunities, and career coaching. Contingent upon work performance during the 2L summer, and continued academic excellence during your 3L year, you will have the opportunity to receive a first-year associate position at the conclusion of your summer. Application Process The firm is looking for entrepreneurial, determined and engaged students with strong academic credentials and a demonstrated interest in representing global financial institutions in their most complex and high stakes litigations. This includes past work experience and/or past academic exposure (course work and/or scholarship). The New York, San Francisco, and Orange County (Irvine, CA) offices are the only eligible offices for this position. You will do substantive financial services litigation work, spanning a wide breadth of assignments, including depositions, research, brief writing, and (where applicable) trial work. You will be provided with opportunities to gain a better understanding of the practice of law - including the potential to shadow attorneys - and participate in national and local trainings, including workshops on improving your legal writing skills and how to become a more effective speaker. * Our summer program also hosts unique programming and events designed to help you get to better know your fellow Summer Associates and Orrick attorneys, including local office and national social programming. Past programming has included classes on making sushi, charcuterie boards, and candles, attending baseball games, canoeing, sailing, beach cycling, karaoke, Top Golf, bowling, and chocolate tastings. QualificationsApplicants must be rising 2Ls (class of 2027) pursuing a JD at an ABA-accredited law school. 2Ls attending a part-time program or pursuing a JD/MBA degree at an ABA-accredited law school, who are not graduating in 2027, are also eligible.Compensation and BenefitsThe expected gross salary for this position is $4,326.92/week.Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work.
