West Sound Workforce is assisting a local parks and recreation district in Gig Harbor in hiring a temporary Accounting Specialist to support their mission of enriching the community through exceptional parks and recreation experiences. For nearly two decades, this Pierce County parks district has demonstrated strong stewardship, collaboration, and integrity---creating and maintaining spaces that inspire residents to explore, play, and connect with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position plays a vital role in maintaining the district's financial integrity through hands-on accounting work across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. The Accounting Specialist prepares and analyzes financial reports for internal management, the Board of Park Commissioners, and state auditors---ensuring transparency, accuracy, and trust in every transaction.

What you will do as Accounting Specialist:

Handle core accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, ensuring accuracy and compliance with district policies

Prepare, review, and analyze financial data and statements to support reporting for management, the Board of Park Commissioners, and external auditors

Partner with the Director of Finance on month-end closings, reconciliations, and process improvements to enhance efficiency

Assist with the implementation of automated accounting procedures and evaluate systems for continued improvement

Foster professional relationships across departments while upholding high standards of integrity, accuracy, and collaboration

What we are looking for:

Proven experience in accounting or finance, with hands-on responsibility for payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable

Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and month-end reconciliation

Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office; experience supporting process automation or system improvements is a plus

Highly detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
