Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) seeks one Director of Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) (JP# 005-2025) for its Program Wide Branch Offices.

LSLA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit law firm and its mission is to protect and advance the civil rights of low-income Texans by providing advocacy, legal representation, and community education that ensure equal access to justice.

Job Summary

Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) is in the process of reviewing and updating its PAI Plan and seeks a Director of Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) to be responsible for LSLA's overall PAI Plan. This position requires familiarity with the delivery of pro bono legal services and poverty law. The ability to relate to our client community, the local private bar, and staff, and able to close between 2,000 to 3,000 cases per year.

Summary of Responsibilities

Develop, organize, and oversee PAI Projects under the PAI Plan. Oversee and recruit PAI attorneys. Oversee referral of cases to PAI attorneys. Maintain systems and procedures related to PAI projects. Assist branch or unit offices in the development and supervision of systems and procedures for PAI contract attorneys, and pro bono attorney projects. Provide orientation and training of staff working with PAI projects in branch offices. Coordinate activities between local bar associations, state bar associations, Texas Lawyers Care, LSLA branch offices and Units. Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited Law School

Licensed to practice in Texas or qualify for reciprocity

Three years of successful state and/or federal litigation experience

Demonstrated good management or supervisory skills through previous work experience

Familiarity with LSC Regulations and Performance Criteria

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Exceptional interpersonal, communication, analytical, technical, and organized skills

Strong commitment to LSLA's mission to ensure equal justice

Proven ability to collaborate with a team, represent LSLA to a rich diversity of people, communities, and institutions, and develop creative solutions to complex problems

Lots of patience, energy, and enthusiasm with a proven record of building and expanding a PAI Plan.

Mental and Aptitude

-Must be able to apply logical thinking to a wide range of practical and legal problems while dealing with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Location: The successful applicant must have reliable transportation to travel throughout the counties served by this office.
