Under general supervision, performs all or any combination of routine or specialized duties such as rough carpentry, concrete work, masonry work, earthwork, equipment operation and maintenance; installs concrete pipe, installs and repairs precast and cast-in-place structures; and repairs facilities within the existing canal and drainage systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

: The examples of essential functions listed below are representative but not necessarily exhaustive or descriptive and incumbent may be assigned other related functions not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment for the position.

Operates tractor, trash truck or truck with disc, chain, or moss cart, or scraper in tow to dislodge plant growth, or maintain road banks, and uses hand tools or equipment to remove plant growth or debris from siphons, pipes and structures; and operates water, dump, or boom as directed.

Controls bank erosion by placing rocks and other materials along canals and drains.

Installs and repairs cap timbers, delivery or check gates, lifting devices and canal drain markers and paints as required; installs and repairs plastic and concrete pipelines; including manholes, pumps, piping, and support systems; installs and repairs pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete structures, footings, and slabs.

Installs, repairs or seals concrete-lined canals, service pipes, moss pipes, tailgate water boxes, pipeline drains, and drain outlets; and installs wells and pumps.

Services vehicles and equipment by fueling, checking oil and water levels, tire pressure and washing and ensures vehicle has appropriate equipment and guards.

Uses hand tools or equipment including rodding machine to remove plant growth or debris from siphons, pipes and structures; and unplugs pipe crossings and siphons.

Cuts, bends, places, ties, and sets steel reinforcement; and sets, assembles and disassembles wood and steel forms during pre-casting, and in the field for a variety of concrete structures; may work from scaffolds or ladders.

Mixes, places, shovels concrete into prepared slab forms, canals, underground pipes, structures, and tamps, trowels and finishes concrete; applies sealant and curing compounds to concrete structures; and uses cement blocks or other masonry materials for building up and support existing structures.

Operates oxygen-acetylene gas torch, various pumps, power or pneumatic hand tools, portable generator, portable air compressor and hydraulic lifting devices as required.

Operates level and transit standard surveying equipment to maintain proper line and grade, as specified in construction drawings.

As required, provides the landowners, the public, and supervisors' general information regarding the task being performed in the field.

Assists heavy equipment personnel in performance of their duties.

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Acts as flagman or signalman at construction sites.

Repairs and inspects ladders, small tools and equipment.

Maintains various records and reports of activities.

Perform minor maintenance on hand tools or equipment used for maintenance.

May assist with training and leading of less experienced personnel.

Uses computer or other electronic device to enter time, mileage records, training, report activities etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.
