Legal Ethics Summer Associate - Office of Chief Counsel

The Hanford Mission Integration Solutions team, comprised of globally-known and U.S. Department of Energy-trusted partners, offers Hanford solutions through mission integration. The Hanford Mission Integration Solutions offers 1L or 2L Law students an exciting opportunity to work with industry professionals, develop skills, and explore careers in environmental management, engineering, technology, business, and more.

A Summer Associate will contribute to the successful execution of sitewide operations, infrastructure management, and project support, learning from experts and gaining insight into one of the nation's most important environmental missions.

Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is seeking a Summer Associate to support the following organization/department:

Ethics and Compliance: The Ethics team is responsible for oversight and coordination of the HMIS Ethics and Compliance Program and reports to the HMIS Office of Chief Counsel. We provide guidance and assistance to management and employees in reviewing and resolving matters regarding ethics and conduct in the workplace.

Legal: The Office of Chief Counsel's mission is to provide high quality, responsive and timely legal advice to HMIS, its executives, managers and employees in the execution of HMIS' contract obligations to DOE and other Hanford Site contractors. The chief counsel, and staff, work with HMIS personnel to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws rules and regulations.

Specific to the Legal department, a Summer Associate will:

Assist in business operations and project coordination.

Participate in special projects focused on performance, process improvement and operational support.

Compile and report performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making.

Conduct legal research and writing on complex legal issues with short suspense's

Review case files to identify legal issues that must be addressed

Write legal briefs and memorandum

Assist attorneys with long-term research projects

Assist attorneys and legal specialists to complete assignments in preparation to represent HMIS

Arrange case files to assist attorneys to prepare for hearings and trial

On attorneys' behalf, coordinate interaction with company officials and opposing counsel
