The Office of the Governor is looking for a Counsel (Attorney III) to work within the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office.

The salary is $10,000.00 - $10,175.30 a month ($120,000.00 - $122,103.60 a year).

What You'll Do

This position performs highly complex (senior-level) legal work. Work involves providing well-researched legal services on a wide range of legal issues, including preparing legal documents; interpreting laws, regulations, and rules; and performing legal reviews of the process by which Texas state agencies adopt rules and impose regulatory requirements. Reviews bills for legal issues during the legislative session.

Performs legal and administrative activities related to the review of agency rules and regulations as set forth in SB 14, 89th Legislature.

Provides legal advice to the TREO Director and the

Office of the Governor

on legal matters related to the review of agency rules and the rulemaking process

; identifies appropriate legal solutions.

Works on large, complex, or high-profile legal matters, projects or cases; resolves substantive and procedural issues.

Reviews draft legal documents, including memoranda on regulatory matters and administrative rules.

Prepares legal opinions, briefs, and reports related the review of agency rules and regulations.

Assists OOG staff, including General Counsel, in legal matters that arise with respect to other state agencies.

Communicates effectively with members of the Texas Legislature, advocacy groups, local governmental entities and law enforcement, constituents, and others as authorized on behalf of the OOG.

Coordinates with other state agencies regarding legal matters affecting those agencies or the OOG.

Monitors, reviews, and analyzes legislation in advance of, and during, the legislative session.

Reviews legal documents and conducts regulatory research as needed.

Provides advice and counsel on a wide range of legal matters as assigned.

How You'll Qualify

Graduation from an accredited law school and current member of the bar in good standing;

Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas for two (2) years; or licensed in another state for two (2) years and able to secure licensure in Texas as soon as practicable; and

Must be able to research, analyze, and solve legal problems and to interpret laws and regulations.

You're a Great Fit with

Three (3) years or more of work experience as a practicing attorney in Texas;

xperience and knowledge in the regulatory review and rulemaking process;

Experience with legal review of rules of Texas state agencies; and
