Job Title: Day Shift Journeyman Mechanic

Division: Equipment

Supervisor: Shop Supervisor

Job Summary : Under limited supervision from the shop foreman, the journeyman mechanic is responsible for performing work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and overseeing special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values.

Direct the work of several projects.

Welding and fabrication.

Diagnose, rebuild, and repair vehicles and equipment; perform major engine and transmission repairs and replacements as well as electrical diagnosis.

Perform plant inspections, diagnose any problems, and perform plant maintenance, including electrical.

Complete major road calls and perform field repairs.

Perform inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

Prepare and maintain records and reports.

Maintain tools as required to do the job.

Operate forklift.

Maintain insurable driving record.

Ensure a safe and healthful work environment at all time.

Education and/or Experience :

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Three years journeyman experience and/or two year diesel mechanic certificate preferred.

Maintain a commercial driver's license (CDL) and department of transportation (DOT) medical card, preferred but not required.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Sitting: 20% of the time

Standing: 85% of the time

Driving: 15% of the time

Weight lifted: Up to 50 pounds

Physical Movement: Will frequently kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend or twist body, use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, stretch, bend, push pull, lift, or carry heavy objects, support body for long periods of time.

Speaking / Listening: Needs to be able to communicate effectively with supervision, follow instructions, and understand safety requirements. Needs to be able to hear sounds and recognize difference between them as well as focus on one source of sound and ignore others.

Working Conditions: Exposed to hazardous equipment, situations, and conditions. Sometimes will work outdoors at work site and indoors in the repair shop, exposed to all weather conditions. Will also be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are uncomfortable and a variety of lighting conditions, from dim to light.

Ability to operate heavy equipment.

Knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, electronics, and familiar with components associated with them

Skilled in welding, cutting, and fabrication.

Knowledge of plants, set up, and movement

Knowledge of boiler systems and operations

Knowledge of towing, recovery, lifting, and rigging

Knowledge of conveyor systems

Knowledge of fuel and fueling systems

Vast knowledge of complex electrical systems on vehicles/ equipment

Vast knowledge of complex hydraulic systems
