Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Assistant to support our finance team in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth accounting operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in accounting principles, technical accounting, and data entry consistency . This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in corporate and governmental accounting practices, including compliance with GAAP and OMB regulations, while contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities Perform data entry and maintain accurate records within accounting software such as MIP/Sage. Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections. Reconcile general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts, and perform account analysis to identify discrepancies. Processes shared costs in accordance with cost allocation procedures. Help prepare financial reports, supporting documentation, and audit schedules in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards. Prepare payroll and related federal, state, and local tax reports. Contribute to budgeting activities and assist with financial concepts such as credit analysis, tax experience, and non-profit accounting when applicable.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or business and one year accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles in government or non-profit agencies and cost accounting is preferred. Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), OMB compliance requirements, and governmental accounting standards. Strong understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, double-entry bookkeeping, and general ledger reconciliation. Experience with payroll processing and withholding procedures. Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy; proficiency in 10 key typing is preferred. Ability to analyze financial data effectively and perform account analysis with attention to detail. Strong organizational skills combined with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
