Job Title: Medical Assistant Reports To: Director of Nursing and Team Leader/Charge Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists with the day to day operations of the practice by rooming of patients for office visits for all @types of visits including but not limited to regular office visits, workers compensation visits, automobile injury visits, and research visits.

Collects accurate data such as history from patient, review of medications, reviews of systems, and chief complaint.

Documents exams dictated by the physician in a precise and detailed manner.

Performs tasks such as phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, assists with minor surgery, spirometry checks, urine testing, and measuring and recording of accurate vital signs.

Assists the practice by accurately documenting procedure codes as well as diagnostic codes to facilitate a smooth process for billing.

Assists in the preparation of patients for procedures under the direction of the physician and administer standing orders through the electronic medical record from the disease management/health maintenance screen.

Gives patient and family teaching under the direction of the physician teaching information in regards of the appropriate diagnosis given.

Processes referrals electronically to other physicians and/or outside agencies at the request of the physician/provider.

Projects a positive image for the practice and acts as a role model for the mission of the practice.

Maintains confidentiality at all times following HIPAA guidelines.

Responsible for occasional evening or weekend work.

Responsible for any other duties under the direction of the charge nurse, team leader, director of nursing, or physician.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software.

Education/Experience: Associate's degree (A.A./A.S.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or a graduate of a certified medical assistant program; and some related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses: CPR certification
