Nature of Work Under the administrative direction of the Planning and Zoning Administrator, performs a variety of tasks that involve planning, zoning, economic development, neighborhood development and enforcement issues. Provides clerical and administrative support for the Planning and Development and Code Enforcement Departments. This position consists of clerical duties, which involves moderately complex work methods and problems and requires skilled typing and computer usage. Pre-Employment Drug Screening Recruiting Requirements High school diploma At least 2 years of experience in planning, zoning, development and/or code enforcement preferably in the public sector. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office products. Experience in performing secretarial and clerical work of a progressively responsible nature including accurately recording/reporting fees and related payments. Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills. Experience working in a municipal environment desired. Essential Functions Assist general public with interpretations of zoning and land use regulations pertaining to permit applications. Acts as one of the primary customer service representatives for the City. Functions as the primary contact for office copiers and other office equipment; ensures office equipment is in working order and performs minor troubleshooting exercises. Also performs routine maintenance on office equipment and stocks routine supplies, such as paper, ink, etc. Orders office and department equipment and supplies. Performs inspections on yard setbacks, landscaping requirements and final zoning inspections. Works closely with the public and other departments and divisions of the City to oversee and coordinate code enforcement issues. Analyzes and prepares reports on zoning, planning, economic development and enforcement issues. Reviews and approves a broad scope of residential permits. Performs site plan review for all aspects of land development which includes lot splits, lot consolidations, subdivisions, zoning changes and variances. Works closely with the public, developers, contractors, realtors and interoffice departments. Considers and utilizes urban design principles when approving permits and conducting research. Assist the Planning and Zoning Administrator at public meetings and will represent him in his absence. Acts as secretary to maintain minutes for the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
