Under general supervision, the Electric Serviceman performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and installation of electric services and meters; responds to trouble calls for electric, water and sewer functions and outages as required; assists line crews as assigned.

Examples of Work Performed:

Checks and repairs connections

Connects and disconnects electric serviceLocates faults

Installs and repairs overhead and underground lines and services

Repairs street lighting, circuits and controls

Installs and repairs security lights

Installs and repairs load management switches

Relocates electric meters and installs remote meters

Responds to emergency calls to reset switches and repair gear and motors at lift and booster stations and wells

Refuses-transformers

Works cutoff lists and delivers cutoff notices

Investigates complaints of high electric bills and possible thefts of

Checks horsepower at commercial businesses

On occasion, reads meters and works high voltage linesTrims trees

Maintains records of services worked

Installs and repairs electric circuit in buildings and facilities

Performs other duties as assigned

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Working knowledge of electricity and transmission and distribution of electric power

Some knowledge of electrical code; mechanical aptitude

Ability to climb poles and works with, and around, high voltage live lines under adverse weather condltions

Ability to analyze customer electrical problems and take, or recommend, the proper corrective action

Ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and two-way radio

Ability to see and read instructions

Ability to project a positive public relations image and to enhance customer relations

Experience and Training:

Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of vocational training in basic electricity and two years experience as a Lineman 1

Special Requirements:

Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License as required by the State
