Job Description: The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works is seeking dependable and motivated Construction General Laborers to assist with infrastructure, roadwork, and drainage improvement projects throughout the city. This opportunity is part of the WIOA Transitional Jobs Program, designed to provide paid, short-term work experience to individuals with barriers to employment. Participants will gain valuable hands-on skills and work readiness training while contributing to critical public works projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure

Operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment such as jackhammers, compactors, and concrete saws

Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment at job sites

Set up and break down traffic barricades, cones, and signage to maintain safe work zones

Mix, pour, and spread asphalt, concrete, and other materials

Clean and prepare construction sites by removing debris, hazardous materials, and waste

Work under the direction of skilled tradespeople, foremen, and supervisors

Comply with all safety regulations, city policies, and environmental guidelines

Perform other labor-related duties as assigned, often outdoors in varying weather conditions

Minimum Qualifications:

Must meet eligibility requirements for the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) Transitional Jobs Program

High school diploma or GED preferred

Previous general labor or construction experience is a plus but not required

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks for extended periods

Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to follow directions

Must pass background check and drug screening

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in the WIOA Transitional Jobs Program through JOB1 Business and Career Solutions. To qualify, individuals must have barriers to employment such as long-term unemployment, limited work history, or other qualifying criteria defined by WIOA guidelines.

Work Schedule:
