The City of Marysville is hiring a highly-motivated Communications Manager to oversee all citywide communications, public relations, and marketing efforts. This experienced professional will report directly to the City Manager within the Administration department and will exercise independent judgment as the principal figure responsible for these functions.

This is an exempt, salaried position with a competitive benefits package and a compensation range of $65,000 to $87,500, commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications.

Job Responsibilities

The role's responsibilities are divided into four key areas:

Strategic Leadership & Advisory:

Serves as the principal advisor to the City Manager and officials on the dissemination of information.

Designs and implements civic engagement strategies to increase citizen participation and trust.

Initiates and manages public relations programs to promote community understanding and support.

Oversees the departmental budget.

Media Relations & Public Information (PI):

Plans, coordinates, and implements all PI activities, including writing news releases and handling media inquiries.

Serves as the primary liaison between City officials, the media, citizens, and public interest groups.

Works with Police and Fire on Emergency Communications and may serve as the Public Information Officer (PIO) at Emergency Operations Centers.

Content Creation & Digital Management:

Maintains the City website and social media platforms for timely, accurate, and accessible content.

Writes, edits, designs, and produces all communication materials (reports, brochures, newsletters, graphics).

Shoots, records, and edits basic informational videos and photographs.

Helps plan and coordinate special events.

Administrative & General:

Coordinates and oversees employee and citizen surveys.

Provides communications training and media coaching to City officials.

Maintains an organized system of all communication records and media contacts.

Manages external and internal requests for public information in adherence to statutes and policies.

Job Requirements

An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Communication, or a related field is preferred.

Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Public Information Clerk, Communications Officer, and/or an Administrative Assistant dealing with public information.

Executive or senior level experience is a plus.

Municipal experience is a plus.
