The City of Lansing is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Treasury department's Income Tax Division as Revenue Technician 2. In this crucial role, you will help ensure financial integrity and compliance for the City of Lansing. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:

This position requires that the applicant placed be able to be bonded under the terms of the City's blanket bond. Therefore, applicants cannot have committed any dishonest acts, before or after placement in the position. Applicants must authorize the release of any information from appropriate agencies regarding the applicant's criminal history.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's degree in business, Accounting, Economics, Criminal Justice or a related area

And at least three (3) years of employment experience conducting financial investigations or three (3) years of employment experience in a financial agency with responsibility for collections.

or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:**

Contacts delinquent businesses or individuals by phone or written communications to inform them of their delinquency of City income taxes. Also responds to questions about tax liability, penalties and consequences of non-payment. Communication may also include attorneys, accountants or other representatives of the taxpayer.

Investigates businesses or individual failure to file necessary income tax returns and withholding tax reports in cooperation with the Income Tax Office.

Research and verify tax returns and legal documents

Prepares payment demand notices and other miscellaneous collection enforcement pre-requisites.

Maintains records of collection and investigation activity.
