POSITION SUMMARY

The Deputy Court Clerk I performs general administrative support, office duties, monetary collections, and the daily functions of the Municipal

Court of Record while portraying a high standard of customer service during the performance of assigned duties.

Deputy Clerk I is expected to adhere to all City policies and procedures, as well as state and federal guidelines that apply to assigned duties.

Under the general supervision of the Clerk of the Court, Presiding judge, Director of Finance, or other designated supervisors.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Collects fees and fines; prepares and reconciles daily deposits.

Maintains and organizes court documents and records, both electronically and in hard copy format.

Adheres to all standing orders as issued and directed by the Judge.

Schedules and maintain pre-trail and show cause docket.

Greets and assists the public, including attorneys, defendants, jurors and witnesses.

Prepares summons, warrants, and other legal documents as directed by the Judge.

Processes and files legal documents, such as complaints, subpoenas and orders.

Manages the court docket and ensures timely and accurate processing of all cases.

Responds to inquiries from the public, providing information and assistance in a courteous and professional manner.

Collaborates with other court staff and departments to ensure the efficient operation of the court.

Research and retrieves records stored.

Performs others related duties as may be assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Moderate supervision

Reports to: o The Presiding Judge and Clerk of the Court for all judicial duties o The Director of Finance, or other designated supervisors for

all administrative duties

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education - High school diploma or GED

Experience - Moderate experience in a court setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

License or Certificate - Valid driver's license in the State of Texas.

Special Requirements - Possess or obtains Notary Commission within six months of hire. Possess or obtain Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC) Court Clerk I certification within one year of hire

Work has no exposure to environmental conditions.

Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)
