MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires that the individual(s) must be sensitive, empathetic and nonjudgmental person(s) who have the ability to cope with a variety of crisis situations. The individual(s) must possess excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, be able to work cooperatively with diverse populations and exhibit cultural sensitivity. The individual(s) must:

be at least 21 years of age

be a citizen of the United States

possess a valid driver's license

possess a High School Diploma / GED, prefer an Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field; or be

currently enrolled in related college courses

have a working knowledge of basic office procedures

have the ability to @type and possess basic computer skills

have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

have the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions

establish and maintain working relationships with employees, work collaboratively with other departments/agencies, and the public

have the ability to work under pressure, handle a continual schedule of distractions and inquiries requiring immediate decisions

be able to meet deadlines

demonstrate problem-solving capabilities

have excellent organizational skills

be able to manage time effectively

have the ability to work flexible schedules and provide 24-hour on-call assistance to victims of all crimes

maintain confidentiality

consent to a criminal and child abuse background check

and possess good moral character

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Victim / Witness Specialist shall maintain client and office records, assist with statistical data collection and reporting, participate in outreach activities in the community, provide assistance to recruit, train and maintain volunteers, and provide direct services to victims of all crimes; (a) immediately following the crime, (b) through the adjudication of the case and, (c) continue beyond the post-sentencing of the case. Advocacy, support and assistance to victims and their families will be provided in the following general areas:

Crisis intervention and on-scene assistance to victims of all crimes immediately after the incident

Assistance and support during criminal justice proceedings, including post-conviction assistance

Information and assistance filing crime victim compensation claims

Emergency financial and shelter assistance

Provide referrals to other service providers as needed

And assistance in securing victims' rights and intervening as needed with employers, creditors, and others.

MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

: The Victim / Witness Specialist shall complete forty (40) hours of training within the first three months of employment, as required by the Office of the Attorney General, Division of Victim Services outlined in the Division's rules, Chapter 11, "Operation of Victim Service Providers Serving Victims Of All Crimes Programs," section 5(a) and attend any in-service or other training as provided.

On-going training requirement: Paid staff shall complete ten (10) hours of annual training after the first year of employment.

Individual(s) shall assist in promoting the Carbon County Victim / Witness Program through community awareness activities.

Individual(s) must adhere to the policies and procedures relevant to the Carbon County Sheriff's Office, the Carbon County Victim / Witness Program and any law enforcement agency for which services are being provided.

Individual(s) shall maintain confidentiality as outlined in the Carbon County Victim / Witness program Confidentiality Policy
