The Accountant performs intermediate to advanced accounting functions, including the processing, recording, and reporting of financial transactions. This role is responsible for ensuring data integrity across the general ledger while providing critical backup support for payroll processing and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial schedules; assist with the annual audit process.

Operational Accounting: Monitor AR/AP and contract payable activities; manage invoicing, deposits, and cash-related tasks.

Compliance & Grants: Analyze federal, state, and local grants for regulatory compliance; ensure adherence to EEO policies and internal controls.

Process Improvement: Assist in developing and updating accounting policies, manuals, and information systems.

Payroll Support: Provide essential backup for payroll functions to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Essential Skills & Abilities

Technical Mastery: Strong command of accounting theories, financial analysis, and electronic accounting systems (ERP).

Analytical Rigor: Ability to perform complex statistical reconciliations and resolve discrepancies independently.

Communication: Skilled at translating complex financial data into comprehensive reports and interacting professionally with all organizational levels.

Adaptability: Capacity to implement new policies and manage special projects in a changing environment.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in General Ledger accounting, AR/AP, and month-end closing procedures.

Requirements: Must be proficient in business software applications and able to assist in local cash-handling tasks as needed.
