General Description:

The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor will be responsible for assisting in agency outreach through school presentations, presentations to community-based organizations, and coordinating participation in community outreach events as well as assisting with advocacy as it relates to domestic violence and sexual assault. This person will also be responsible to provide direct service to victims of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and homelessness as it relates to domestic violence and sexual assault. The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault counselor will also be responsible for maintaining the ETO data base. In addition, this person will aid in recruiting and maintaining of volunteer records as well as training new volunteers. This is a 40-hour, non-exempt position that may require some evening, weekend, and holiday hours. The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor is supervised by the Assistant Executive Director and Executive Director.

Functions and Responsibilities:

Administrative Assistance:

Maintain records as they relate to program services.

Maintain volunteer records.

Service Provision:

Develop and coordinate education programs on sexual assault, domestic violence, and the services provided by A Way Out to the community.

Assist in developing and implementing a presentation schedule to community

Organizations.

Provide emotional support to adults and children coming from violent homes.

Provide intake interviews to establish individual needs.

Provide direct counseling.

Provide information resources, and referrals to service recipients.

Assist in the recruitment and training of new volunteers; and,

Assist in the maintaining of the ETO data base.

Assist domestic violence and sexual assault victims and survivors with identified housing needs.

Other Tasks:

Maintain training hours to meet the required hours by A Way-Out funder.

Perform other VOCA eligible tasks within the purview of this position as designated by the Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications / Education and Experience:

Associate Degree required; Bachelor's Degree in Human Services/Social Work preferred, plus a minimum of two (2) years experience or comparable background and experience.

Required Skills/Activities:

Must be able to work independently.

Able to work with the public and have good oral and written communication skills.

Must successfully complete 40-hour Sexual Assault Counseling training and 40-hour Domestic Violence.

Must have a valid PA driver's license, access to a vehicle, and be willing to transport victims, if needed.

Must have the ability to work flexible hours.

Must be able to obtain Act 33 and Act 34 clearances.
